My friend Arisa, director and owner of Ouchi Gallery in NY, has been in town visiting me these last couple of days and had her first ever workshop in Toronto today at Kid Icarus. With Mike and Bianca’s great help, the workshop was a great success.
I have been working on new body of work which will be seen soon in an upcoming exhibition. Dots by dots, painting with pointillism involves placing dots of colour next to each other and on top of each other, relying on optical blending to create new hues.
Working on a new body of work that extends my previous concerns with the idea of a new colour scheme and effect.

A series of images were created after the massive earthquake struck Japan on March 11, 2011.
As the title says, I was in shock like I was in a black hole. I couldn’t stand, I couldn’t even sit for a long period of time. People can’t really do anything in the dark. At last I have started to paint again after a long absence. Then I realized that I temporarily lost my colour. Black and white is the only colour I could barely handle during this period. Is it true that dogs see the world in black and white? I think it’s true. Life is like a black and white picture, there’s black -death, there’s white -life, and lots of shades in between.
Total 28 pages handmade book about my hometown in Hokkaido Japan. It’s kinda illustrated journal I juxtaposed variety of media include drawings, photographs and short poems on each page in both English and Japanese.
I have finished this for Machi Omoi Project, an art book project dedicated to artists’ hometown and it will be exhibited at Tokyo Midtown from February 10 to 26, 2012. Please check this link for detailed information.
These drawings are a series of quick sketches of people in public places, cafes, galleries, malls..etc. I’ve been doing a lot more sketching from life lately, and try not to do much out of my imagination when I’m drawing in public, because for me the drawing from life is to record the world.

As I mentioned before, I am currently working on a graphic book for Machi Omoi Cho project and did some study for it today. I used both ball point pen and Batik as material and created some sort of ready-to-hang pieces for nothing to use. Yes, it’s Christmas. I will probably give it to someone else as gift.
My John and Yoko piece, donated to CBC’s silent auction, has been sold at $200 which is exactly same amount that I set as a suggested price. So I am pretty happy with it.
In the crowded venue -CBC building- I sat on a chair and watched people passing by and realized that there’s no Asian out here. I always respect the people who donate a thing for charity whatever money or time or effort but they’re mostly non-Asian people. It does not mean that Asian people are not involved in the process of solving global problems but I feel isolated in the sense that nobody from my community attended. Especially the people from us, Japanese community, received a tons of support for the earthquake relief aid but no one’s out there. It’s a shame.
The SUITMAN returns to Toronto with a recent group exhibition at Chelsea Museum in New York.
My friend Rafi curates Joel Rechardson, a.k.a. Suitman’s show here at 134 Ossington, Toronto. I stopped by and attended their media launch tonight with a bunch of other Suitmen and SuitKids. Look what the kid wore a suit so cool! The exhibition will be officially opened on Thursday December 8th.
This piece is dedicted to Steve Jobs and all the creative people around the world. 2011 is the year that we lost Steve Jobs – innovator, thinker, and above all, the person who revolutionalized the way we interact with technology. I remember the first time I heard his name in the Apple “Think Different” campaign in 1997 when Steve Jobs rejoined the company. It featured the famous “Bed-In” photo of John and Yoko. The ad reminded the world what Apple was about and what the company strived for. Apple wasn’t like other companies. It didn’t follow the “rules”. It made its own. And it thought different – like John and Yoko.
